The Open Space Council » Operation Clean Stream

http://www.openspacestl.org/operation-clean-stream/

If you can make it, Operation Clean Stream is one of the biggest and longest
running annual river cleanups in existence.  If you're family is interested
in attending, mark your calendars for August 23.  You can choose your own
site from the list of sites at the link above, but if there are a bunch of
people that want to go to one site together, I'll be glad to coordinate.

As we get closer I'll see who's interested in attending and maybe we can
choose a site.

Happy summer!

Ben

Washington River Festival WILL be held this Saturday
but River Clean-up is Cancelled

Yes, the Missouri River will be in flood stage this Saturday in Washington, MO. At these levels, the staging area for the Missouri River Clean-up scheduled for Saturday, June 14, will be underwater. Because of this, and safety concerns about taking large numbers of volunteers on a flooding river, we have cancelled the Clean-up scheduled for this Saturday.

But the River Festival, located on higher ground at the pavilion at Washington Riverfront Park, is still going on!

We hope that you'll still make it to the festival, from 10:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday June 14. We'll be celebrating our amazing Big Muddy even as she shows one of her wilder faces. It will be an experience to remember!

There will be music, a presentation by the World Bird Sanctuary <http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=2653f52ec2&e=e3gEBaHiIS><http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=2653f52ec2&e=e3gEBaHiIS> , educational exhibits by river biologists and non-profits, a river nature walk, kid's activities, food and more! A special new addition will be the Augusta Brewing Company <http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=35843e8689&e=e3gEBaHiIS><http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=35843e8689&e=e3gEBaHiIS>  from across the river, serving handcrafted beers and rootbeer floats!

Click here for a list of exhibitors and schedule of entertainment.  <http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=c7ed1b70d5&e=e3gEBaHiIS><http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=c7ed1b70d5&e=e3gEBaHiIS>

Although the public river-based clean-up is cancelled, Missouri River Relief <http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=05d9cd9bff&e=e3gEBaHiIS><http://list-manage.com/track/click?u=e19adac188abf87e09113de49&id=05d9cd9bff&e=e3gEBaHiIS>  will still be onsite, with our boats, trashbags and nets. Our trained crew will still be pulling large trash items out of the river. Look for us if you want to help pick up trash along the riverside.

Special thanks to local organizers Gloria Attoun Bauermeister and Mike Smith for helping us put together what will still be a fantastic day on the river. Thanks also to Missouri DNR, LAD Foundation, the Washington Boat Club and John and Alex Jansen for sponsoring this wonderful event and extra special thanks to all the exhibitors, musicians and vendors that will make the festival happen.

See you in Washington!

A Few RK Pics from the Trip

I thought parents and kids might like a few pics to hold onto from the RK
trip this year.  There were some good times had by many!

Picnic Locale

We have the N&O pavilion at Heman Park reserved for this afternoon - 4-7pm.
Though a map wasn't available at the rec center, it appears it's the same
one as last year.

To find us, enter the park off of Midland at Shaftesbury and follow the road
until you see the pavilion and the rest of us on the left.

We'll plan on eating around 5pm.  Hope to see you there!  If not, we'll miss
you and look forward to seeing you soon enough!

RK Picnic - Second Try

Aright, folks...so it seems like it's just my MO as of late to be behind in
coordinating things!  Sorry for that.  I promise I'll make up for the lack
of emails somewhere along the line.

Anyhow, those of us who are able are going to gather this Wednesday, June
4th, 4-7pm in Heman Park under one of the pavilions...I just asked Teresa
Biggs a little bit ago if she would reserve a site (Thank you, Teresa!) so
I'm not sure which one we'll have...I'll let you know tomorrow.

Same plan as before unless you hear otherwise:

Charlotte and I will take care of grilling the main course and wine.  We
just need you all to bring the sides, drinks, desserts, and paper supplies.

Feel free to bring a plastic plate and silverware from home if you're
looking to save a little extra waste.

Please reply to this email with what you're bringing and I'll coordinate as
necessary if something is missing or too plentiful.

Feel free to bring stuff to keep the B-K crew stimulated.  Anyone for
washers?

Hope to see you Wednesday!

Ben

River Fun

In case you're in town and are looking for a little family river fun,
there's a big cleanup and river festival in Washington, MO June 14.

The cleanup is from 9am-12pm.  The festival funs from 10:30am-4pm or
whenever the last band clears the stage.

There will be food, music, and river-related exhibitions during the
festival.  Jeff Barrow, co-author of "From the Bottom Up," Chad Pregracke's
book, will be there selling and signing books.  He's a fan of River Kids and
would love to chat with a River Kid or Parent in person, time willing!
